IKEA to come to Cleveland?

July 27th, 2005

UrbanOhio.com thread on this site and inside is a rumor that IKEA has purchased land in Cleveland.

I have not substantiated this one yet, but looking at the site in question I HIGHLY doubt it. It just doens’t gel with what they typically always require as a stone cold non-neogitable.

Personally I think Columbus was a better location for the first Ohio IKEA, but it could be timing and bargaining fell through. Perhaps they will still try.

With Detroit getting one, and Cleveland possibly getting one, our road trips for Swedish crack have at least halved.

IKEA in Cleveland would be okay, but I do not think one needs to be there. It is only a 1 1/2 hour ride to the PA store. That small travel is part of the charm of going (unless you have a small car). A Columbus store would make more sense for a number of reasons. I live in Taiwan right now and have a store basically in my back yard. Once it is there you it is not that big of a deal. Instead of speading money there, you start going for ideas and shopping around at other stores for a better made product. So when they are further away you have more fun and your also more likely to buy more and enjoy it.
