Petition? Pfft. Amatuers.

July 2nd, 2006

From a Durham/Raleigh North Carolina Paper:

Fans go online to woo Ikea

Ikea, a Swedish retailer of home furnishings, must be feeling the love from this region.

A Raleigh woman and fan of the chain’s stores is compiling hundreds of signatures on an online petition to get the retailer to open a store in the Triangle.

Petition organizer Leigh Williams wants 2,000 signatures before sending them to Ikea’s corporate office. She said petitioning online is cheaper and allows her to connect with more people of shared interest than sidewalk signature gathering.

Her effort highlights the role of the Internet as a place to campaign for causes, organize events and connect with the like-minded.

Jen says: IKEA knows exactly how many fans they have in North Carolina, they monitor thier catalog mailings and zipcodes when you check out. Only 2,000 signtures? That’s hardly enough to bother over. And besides, petitions are so last century. If she wants real return on her interest: build a site, build an audience, build some buzz… build it and the people, and IKEA, will come. But hey, good luck with that all the same. Everyone should have an IKEA.

I’m sorry you guys didn’t get the nod today . . . personally CA has plenty of IKEA stores & it’s totally unfair to ignore states they haven’t even touched yet.

. . . but face it - OH didn’t get a store either so please don’t bash the Carolinas attempt . . . us IKEA lovers need to stick together
