Just got back from our Saturday trip. WOW it was crowded! We got there about 9:30 and still got a good parking spot. Line was loooong, but it didn't take too long to get in. Got a free IKEA water bottle, always nice. It was absolutely packed getting in and going up the escalator, especially the first few rooms. Breakfast first, then a meandering trip through the whole store (feeling like herded cattle), then lunch, and then our second trip through with a cart to actually pick up items. By the time we left around 2pm, the parking lot was packed in pretty tight. We were sent on a detour to I-75 that passed by an open field marked IKEA Parking, and it looked like they had charter buses transporting customers. Hope they didn't buy too much stuff! Very crowded, very fun, got some nice stuff to outfit my home office.

Lori,

We waited in that long line, but it wasn't torture...totally worth the meatballs. I have a complaint...where were the whole potatoes? All I got were mashed. This better not be a permanent change! Anyone else know what's up with that?

Travis,
I think you have really good ideas concerning the site. I'd sign up and stay on for that format. Sharing pics of the ways we've used our Ikea stuff would be cool too.

So sad I didn't see anyone opening day, although I had a couple people ask if I was Jen! (Wore my t-shirt of course.) It would be cool to meet all of you, trade secrets, stories and ideas all related to Ikea. It seems that no one else understands Ikea fever!

I could see this site growing strong as a community-based forum. Allow people to register and start thread-based discussions and it will become so much stronger as a resource. People could have profile pages, listing their personal IKEA experiences and information. Threads could be started for trading/selling, meet-ups, hacks, etc, all with moderation if you feel it needs it. A forum with registered users would prompt more discussion, where as the blog/comment format isn't really designed for that (its format prompts feedback in a more linear fashion, not discussion).

hope that helps :swede:

I'd like to see a product swap/sale/trade section. I know IKEA has a generous return policy, but I have some discontinued stuff I bought that can't go back now. Anyone need some BJORDAL mirrors? :D

I think a "trip reports/meet-ups" section could be fun... now that one is so near, perhaps those of us that have been lemming for Ikea-ness can get together at the actual Ikea. (Heavenly choir of angels - AAAAHHHH)

Over meatballs. Mmmmmm meatballs.

I still can't believe I didn't eat there. *sigh* I was so focused on getting my stuff, that by the time I came up for air the line was a zillion people long.

I would really like to see a place for product reviews and how the products are holding up. I fell in love with the Stockholm line and had visions of buying the sofa until I sat on it. I am an average size person and with my rear all the way back in the seat, the edge of the seat hit me mid-calf and my feet were way off the floor. Things like that would be great to share.
Thanks
