We went to the Ikea Store yesterday and bot lots of awesome stuff for our baby's playroom. We found the store to be a little sensory overload after a few hours. They just have too many things that we wanted to buy, which is a good thing!

You can see a small photoblog of our adventure here:

I had never been to Ikea before, but my beloved partner made a number of trips up to the Chicago one when he was putting together his office. I was looking forward to the textiles, in particular.

The place is a museum of shopping. We arrived around 2:30 in the afternoon on Sunday, a few weeks after the open. I figured it would be crowded, but not, you know, CROWDED. I was wrong.

I planned to get out of there in 2-3 hours, but then we had a meal, so then I figured 4, and then we got tired and took a break...all in all, 6.5 hours. When we left, all other shops were closed, it being Sunday and all. That was fine...I was wiped out.

A few years ago we lived in a condo walking distance from that Ikea. I'm glad I'm not that close now. Great prices only go so far when you overbuy. I'll be back soon for fabric though. I saw a great print (intended, I believe, for sofas) that would make an aewsome sundress.

I was a "virgin" IKEA shopper, as was my best friend. We went last Tuesday, around 6pm, to avoid a large crowd, and it worked because it wasn't too bad at all. My main goal for the trip was to get kitchen & bathroom things for my new house. I had just moved out of an ex-boyfriends house and was pretty much starting over, with nothing. I spent $200 on pots, plans, utensils, towels, etc and got pretty much everything I needed! My friend spent $100 and she bought a lot of little accessories, for her house.

When we first got into IKEA we were really overwhelmed. We weren't even sure what to do. We started in the showroom, and eventually figured out "how it worked". We had one cart between the two of us, and it was filled to the top, and was so heavy that she had to pull and I had to push!

Overall, we loved it. We can't wait to go back and are already planning what we'll buy. She wants to redo her kitchen eventually and has already picked out her cabinets and other things for it. I want to get a TV stand and a dresser, too.

We'll probably go back in a few weeks and fill up another cart!

I finally made it to IKEA yesterday for the first time. We got their just after 10 and it was already super crowded but we were expecting that. I went with my parents and my mom and I loved every second of it. I bought the MIKAEL computer work station, the SNILLE visitor chair (I wanted the swivel chair but I sat in several and none of the wheels worked properly), and the MORKER lamp. I had heard some horror stories about the items being hard to put together and pieces missing but the chair and desk were easy to put together and everything was there.

I just had one thing that I thought was kind of surprising. I didn't see anyone actually trying out the furniture. I have never been in a furniture store where people seemed to be scared to touch anything.

But I absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back. The two things my mom really wanted were both sold out so we'll be heading back in a few weeks to get those.

My girlfriend and I have been to IKEA before (5x to Canton and 1x to Pittsburgh) but I was very impressed by the WC store. Their inventory level was great and people were extremely friendly. But, I do understand that this was opening weekend and most everything was in stock and most folks hadn't had the chance to get burned out on their job - yet... lol

Anyways, on to the good stuff: what I bought. I purchased a NOT floor lamp (a great deal at $7 bucks), a wok, 2 BASISK table lamps, BASISK floor lamp, LACK birch coffee table (that is serving as an entertainment center) and 2 LACK black/brown end tables for the bedroom. We also got the 12 pack glasses (the name escapes me), a garlic press, the stainless steel with perforated holes kitchen utensil thing (agin, the name escapes me) and a lot of other kitchen gizmos that I just cannot remember right now...

My parents were IKEA virgins. Mom loved it. Dad hated it. He doesn't do well in crowds and was about to have a cow when we went up the escellator into the showroom.

We ate lunch in the restaurant. In true Swedish fashion, I had the meatball platter w/mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam. My girlfriend had the same. My parents followed suit as well. On the way out we grabbed a hot dog or two out of the Bistro as well as a cinnamon roll and a frozen yogurt. It was just one of those "gotta do it" things.

Overall I give the foodservice 4 stars and the overall store 5 (both out of 5).
