Hey Jen -- definitely don't listen to Andrew. You absolutely did the right thing and the hard thing. I am a bit of a confronter as well (yes, I spoke to a lady who was telling her 3 year old that he was "the effing stupidest kid in the world" and I regularly speak to people who don't put their carts back into the cart holders (this is a personal pet peeve - it makes me crazy). I think there is something missing in some folks about basic common sense and decency, and if no one else is going to call them on it, heck, I guess we have to.

And, ANDREW.... while they may have been stealing inexpensive items (rich ladies! oh how that would BURN ME), theft like that costs ALL of us more money. Those items still cost the company money to resupply, and enough theft and suddenly, everything costs more.

Rock on, Jen!

Jen, don't listen to Andrew. You are not a crybaby. Whether it's a cash register or plastic cutlery, it still didn't belong to them. Stealing is stealing. On of the great things about IKEA is that they keep their costs down. And they have to take into account the losses they incur when someone steals from them. Who pays for it in the end? We do.

I like your site, by the way. I happened upon it last month - when you still called it OHIKEA. Why did you change it?

Well it was the fact that the store hadn't even been open a stinking whole 20 minutes yet (not just for the day, but EVER) and these rich ladies were stealing already. (And by rich I mean I bet they had Lexus SUVs they drove to IKEA form their old Victorian manors in Maidera.)

These aren't white plastic forks either, they are large handled multicolored kid friendly design that the store washes and reuses in the cafe.

Wow, I'm shocked. Not at people stealing plastic tableware, but at the fact that you made such a big deal about it, going as far as to confront the people and then tattle on them. Get a life. You think you're going to change the world by reporting someone who steals a plastic fork or two - or a hundred - or were you just hoping for a coupon or award from the management? If they were stealing furniture or a cash register, then yes, report them, but you said it yourself. A bag of the ware costs less than two bucks. You really sound like a crybaby. I wouldn't want to shop next to you. Now get off your "I'm better than others" pedestal and let the employees take care of their customers.
