ABOUT THIS SITE:
FlatPackOhio is Jen Funk Segrest [Full Bio], a web designer, part time medievalist, mad crafter, and IKEA fanatic who lives near Cincinnati, Ohio. No room in her house is free of IKEA. Her living room and kitchen are swimming in it, and she drinks the ligonberry Koolaid proudly from her IKEA glasses.
This blog was her little venture to get Ohio on the IKEA radar and to report any IKEA sightings and rumors for Ohio after hearing one in 2004. The next day OHIKEA.com was born. Over the next years Jen reported and investigated every lead and correctly predicted the announcement that was made by IKEA on 15 August 2006 for a store in West Chester just north of Cincinnati.
In April 2008 this site changed names from OHIKEA.com to FlatPackOhio.com, and the focus shifted to include all Ohio fans IKEA obessions instead of just covering the constuction and opening.
This site (under it’s previous name) has been featured in Cincinnati Magazine, Business Week Magazine and nearly every major paper in Ohio, and places beyond.
For more about Jen, see her full Bio on her main website.

Where would I find out locally how to apply for a job.
Okay I DO NO WORK FOR IKEA - but you can.
LOOK HERE to find openings at all US IKEA.
I love this site. I love you for creating this site… not in “that” way, but I just LOVE this site!!
I was rapidly becoming convinced that I was the only person in the state of Ohio that was totally obsessed (let alone, even knew of) with IKEA. I went google-ing today when I heard of the groundbreaking in West Chester, and came across this site.
I had my first IKEA experience in February in Sacramento CA, and am coming off a high from traveling to Canton on my birthday back in March, and am desperately jones-ing for another IKEA dose. I have travels for work in Pittsburgh in June and in Portland Oregon in July… The Portland store *should* be open by then. Lets just say that I will be bringing extra luggage.
Anyway, enough of my ramblings and THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this site!

What exactly are you suggesting by your tagline “Suck It Indiana”?
I live in Indianapolis, and have always found Ohio a pleasant place to visit, is this Ohio hospitality?
Thanks, but no thanks, I’ll continue to visit Schaumburg, IL!
I am so glad someone else is counting the seconds until Ikea opens in Ohio. (so why didn’t they choose Columbus? No hard feelings, though…) Only bad thing is we won’t have any reason to visit my parents in maryland anymore…
Hey just wondering if you could go to Google maps and make a map of the location of the IKEA lovin public.
Thanks

My husband is Swedish. We live in Lexington, KY, where he calls himself a “love refugee” from his beloved homeland, i.e., he lives in the USA only for my sake. Being a typical Swede, he is too reticent to write a comment himself, but please know that he checks your website every day in excited anticipation of an IKEA coming to within reasonable driving distance of Lexington.
When we moved here from Sweden in 1990, we make two weekend excursions to our closest IKEA in order to furnish our house. That was to Pittsburgh, a 6 hour drive. We used to joke that other people took mini-vacations to the state parks, but we took our to IKEA Pittsburgh, spending the night in the nearest Motel 6. We’re so thrilled that IKEA is coming to Cincinnati! We will also be able to stop filling our suitcases with Swedish coffee, inlagd sill, Marabou chocolate, etc.
And just in case you haven’t yet gathered what Ikea-ophiles we are, here’s more. My natal family lives in Sacramento, CA. When Ikea opened there two years ago, , my mother, sister and her whole family spent 6 hours in the Ikea store! We started out by eating lunch together in the cafeteria, then shopped alot, and then ate dinner together again! It was heaven!
You are doing a great service to Ikea-ophiles in the midwest/midsouth! Tack!
As a Seattleite now living in the desolation of east Indiana, I am nearly rabid at the prospect of finally having an IKEA within driving distance. I’ve been going through serious withdrawals since leaving behind my beloved IKEA Seattle…and personally, I bust a gut at the ‘Suck it Indiana’ line!
So here’s to waiting a few more months until I can fulfill a long overdue IKEA fix…and gorge on those lovely meatballs.
*sigh*

O.k. obviously I meant good not go! Sorry!
Wow. You’ve got to be kidding me. I was looking for info no the real Ikea site and this came up high on the search. I am hoping that the new West Chester sells lives… hopefully you can get one!
Have you checked out the IKEA West Chester site they posted? Lotsa info: http://info.ikea-usa.com/IKEAVirtualTour/testwestchester/?store=westchester
Hej hej,
I just ran across this site. The new IKEA is very close to our house and we like Nordic design, so we are looking forward to the opening.
You need to check up on your Sewdish alphabet a bit. They do not have an ø, Danish does. The extra ones they have are Å, Ä, and Ö.
I’m not an expert, and don’t speak Swedish, but we’ve been to Swedian 3 times, Norway once, and Finland. I do talk several times a month with good friends in these countries, and they have pointed out the differences in the alphabets many times.
To one of the other posters, you would be surprised at the amount of Swedish food Jungle Jim’s on Rt 4 carries.
Congratulations to all of you in/near West Chester. I am happy for you. Honest.
But I won’t be making the 3.75 hour trip down from Cleveland. Ikea has broken my heart for the last time.
For years I drove to the Pittsburgh store in hopes that it would become clear that there is loads of interest in a store in Cleveland. We shopped. We begged. We assembled bookcases. Then they stiffed us.
Goodbye, Ikea.
I personally bet the akron/stow will get one in say 5 years…

I am so sad I just found this site, AFTER the fact. But, still the same love catching up on what people have been up to/doing since the store opened.
Myself, I’ve been to the store 4 times in the 3 weeks it’s been here, and made my biggest purchase ever at IKEA just yesterday. Although, I did purchase my daughter’s crib from IKEA Chicago 6 years ago and had it shipped to Nashville, wher eth shipping actually cost more than the crib. But it was worth it. Two babies down, and moving on to my sister-in-law’s house this summer for its third child this crib has survived the test of time!
Great blog!
